The Stark County Community Action Agency is warning it’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) recipients to be aware of fraudulent phone calls informing HEAP recipients of a new program called “HEAP CONNECT”, which claims to offer $100 monthly vouchers for use at Wal-Mart, Macy’s and Giant Eagle.
This program is NOT in any way affiliated with SCCAA’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and is a SCAM. Recipients in receipt of these solicitation calls are being asked to verify their HEAP account information and provide a small enrollment fee of $1.95, via a debit card payment. Once the banking information is received from the HEAP recipient, ALL bank account balances / funds are being withdrawn.
SCCAA is urging HEAP recipients to use extreme caution and to confirm the validity of any solicitation. All HEAP program services are provided base upon income eligibility and recipients will never be contacted soliciting enrollment, fees or banking information.
